EnCana's ROCK THE RINK Event

Strathmore, AB – The Strathmore Rockies may have lost their last home game of the season against the Edmonton Chimos in 2-1 shoot-out, but they didn’t go down without a fight. The Rockies played a heated battle in front of a full crowd on Saturday evening, eventually succumbing to the Chimos in a wild 17-player shootout. The Rockies came out fast in the first period, clinching a goal in the first five minutes of game play. Rockies’ forward Brittany Mills scored the goal, with assistance from Carrie Olsen and Kaley Herman, ending the period 1-0. The Chimos, who were not to be bested, put themselves on the board 54 seconds into the second period with a shot from Britney Millar, assist from Lindsay McAlpine. Although the third period was another tight match, neither team could put one past the opposing goaltender and a five-minute overtime was forced. The additional five minutes left both teams scoreless and ready to draw the battle- a shootout would determine the winning team. The Rockies were the first to net a goal, only to have the following Chimos player match the point. With fans on the edge of their seats, another round of players took their turn hoping to gain the edge needed for the win. Again, the Rockies succeeded with another point and again the Chimos responded with a goal. Finally, the 17th player, Chimos’ Alana Nosky, clinched the additional point needed and gave Edmonton the win. Rockies’ sponsor, EnCana Corporation, hosted a community event in conjunction with the final home game, which included complimentary beef on a bun, face painting and musical entertainment from the Keister Family Fiddlers. The Rockies were presented with a $40,000 cheque from EnCana, continuing their sponsorship of the team. EnCana VIPs participated in a Celebrity Shoot Out during the first intermission, with the winner donating $2,000 to a charity of his or her choice. Clearwater Business Unit vice president, Stacy Knull won for his best of three shots and his charity of choice being the Strathmore High School Rodeo Association.
